Summary Little Star School is seeking an Assistant Toddler Teacher for our Twisp Campus.
The Lead Toddler Teacher works in tandem with an assistant teacher to guide, care for, and educate up to 11 students ages 16 months - 3 years. Daily activities include a morning snack, songs and rhymes, art and music, outdoor play, lunch, nap time and unstructured classroom time for the children to explore at their own pace. As our toddler classrooms serve children between the ages of 16 months and 3 years old, it is critical that Lead Teachers are able to support a variety of skills and implement varying developmentally appropriate practices within one classroom environment.
Across our Twisp and Winthrop Campuses, Little Star serves over 125 children ages 0-6, and has been in operation for over 42 years. We are a Montessori-inspired school, utilizing Positive Discipline to guide our students.
Duties - Implements age-appropriate Montessori and other curriculum throughout the year.
- Helps oversees the daily flow of the classroom, including set up, student care and engagement, end of day clean up, parent/guardian interactions, and teaching team collaboration.
- Keeps a well-prepared and organized classroom with a rotation of material and activities throughout the year. Guides the teaching team to share the responsibilities of classroom preparation.
- Meets monthly with team teacher(s) for planning weekly/monthly lessons, discussing how to best meet the needs of individual children, and revitalizing/revising the classroom set up.
- Directs daily activities including: snack and lunch set up and clean up, toilet and diaper needs, nap time, music and art, practical life activities, sensorial work and cooking projects and outdoor play.
Requirements Required:
- Some experience working with toddlers or preschool aged children in a classroom environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, families and other staff members.
- Nurturing, calm, kind, patient and respectful demeanor, with an open attitude towards all children and families.
- Ability to fulfill all Washington State's Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) requirements (TB test, MMR vaccination & pass a portable background check.)
- Willingness to complete training upon hire: Food Handler?s certificate, Pediatric First Aid/CPR, HIV/AIDS and Bloodborne Pathogens Certificate, and Safe Sleep certificate (paid).
- Completion of 30 hour STARS training (completed within 6 months of hire).
- Completion of Positive Discipline training (completed upon hire).
- Can lift 30+ lbs
