Position Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated summer intern to join the Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) program at Exact Sciences. The intern will work closely with senior bioinformatics scientists to develop novel methods for identifying and integrating genomic and epigenetic biomarkers to improve the sensitivity and specificity of MRD assays. This role involves end-to-end participation in the data science workflow, including collecting public datasets, curating internal data, forming hypotheses, building and validating models, and exploring machine learning and AI-based approaches. The ideal candidate should be pursuing a PhD in Bioinformatics, CS, mathematics or data sciences.

This position is onsite at our San Diego office.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Analyze genomics data including NGS data.
• Apply and evaluate machine learning and AI techniques for biomarker discovery.
• Collect and curate public and internal datasets relevant to MRD research.
• Program in python and/or R efficiently.
• Able to use computing resources on AWS effectively.
• Summarize the work for internal discussion and result sharing.

Scheduling Requirements

• Ability to work designated schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently completed Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field. Preference giving to candidates with a record of outstanding academic achievement.
• Strong expertise in machine learning, including familiarity with relevant libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and model evaluation techniques.
• Strong background in statistical analysis.
• Experience with genomics data preprocessing, feature engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
• Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with deep learning frameworks and techniques.
• Experience handling and analyzing large NGS datasets.
• Familiar with relational databases and SQL.

Salary Range:
$40,250.00 - $64,400.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
