The consultant will conduct a thorough assessment of the current SharePoint migration project, identify inefficiencies, potential risks, and performance bottlenecks, and develop a comprehensive plan with actionable suggestions to expedite the project timeline while ensuring data integrity, security, and successful user adoption.
Key Responsibilities
Current State Assessment: Perform a comprehensive audit and inventory of the existing source and target SharePoint environments, including content structure, permissions, workflows, customizations, and integrations within a short span of time
Performance Analysis: Analyze current migration progress, performance metrics, and data transfer rates to identify specific issues causing delays.
Risk Identification & Mitigation: Pinpoint potential risks, such as large lists, complex customizations, or permission inconsistencies, and propose mitigation strategies to prevent future disruptions.
Timeline Optimization: Develop a revised, detailed migration roadmap and schedule with an optimized approach (e.g., phased or incremental migration strategy) to improve efficiency and speed.
Process Improvement: Suggest and implement best practices for data cleansing, content prioritization, and data mapping to streamline the migration process.
Tooling Recommendations: Evaluate the current migration tools (e.g., SharePoint Migration Tool, ShareGate, Metalogix) and recommend configurations or alternative tools to enhance throughput and reliability.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Engage with IT, business stakeholders, and end-users to gather requirements, communicate progress, manage expectations, and ensure alignment with business goals.
Documentation & Reporting: Create detailed documentation of the assessment findings, optimization plan, and progress reports for management and project teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience in planning and executing large-scale SharePoint migrations (on-premises to cloud, or cloud-to-cloud).
Technical Expertise:
o Deep understanding of SharePoint architecture (Online and on-premises) and Microsoft 365 services (Teams, OneDrive).
o Proficiency in Sharegate, SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 environment.
o Experience with Power Apps development and SharePoint list customization.
o Familiarity with SharePoint workflows (Power Automate preferred).
o Basic understanding of HTML/CSS for page formatting and image/link preservation.
o Exposure to InfoPath form conversion projects.
o Familiarity with classic vs. modern SharePoint differences.
Migration Tools Proficiency:
o Hands-on experience with industry-standard migration tools such as the SharePoint Migration Tool (SPMT), ShareGate, or Metalogix.
o Prior experience supporting multiple SharePoint migration projects.
o Ability to perform content validation, link testing, and functional QA.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail to quickly diagnose and resolve complex issues.
Project Management: Experience with project management methodologies (Agile/SCRUM) and the ability to manage project timelines and resources effectively.
Scripting: Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and advanced management tasks is highly desirable.
Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications
Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert (MS-102) or related certifications.
