Living Earth School is a one of a kind camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. We offer Day and Overnight Camps and, as students’ skills progress, we also have expedition opportunities to backpack and canoe this beautiful area! Our philosophy is unique in how we teach people to use natural materials for shelter, fire and food, mentor them through asking questions, not giving answers, and facilitating the interconnectedness of everyone on our team from office staff to youngest camper.
We are looking for a quick-minded person able to work independently but also have fun managing gear and food for our expeditions. This position is called the Pack Out Trip Manager. They must be able to work independently during the week to purchase and calculate food portions and work well with the Trip Leaders and participants on arrival and return days. These tasks will be closely supervised at first through hands-on training, and given more and more responsibility as the summer progresses, according to experience.
The summer camp season runs June 5 through August 12, but if you can start in May, please let us know! If you need housing, you are invited to stay at our Staff Camp. Here there are individual tent spaces, shared outdoor covered kitchen, shower, internet and toilet amenities as well as the comradery of living beside your coworkers and getting to practice natural living skills such as basket crafts, firemaking, wood carving, and more!
