Position Title: Sabbatical Replacement Theater Teacher & Director (1 year)

Start Date: August 2026
Contract Type: One-year, 10-month appointment
School Type: Boarding
Schedule: Full-Time or Part-Time

Faculty members serve as advisors, coaches, mentors, and collaborators, supporting students as they grow artistically, intellectually, and personally. What You'll Do

You will be a teacher, director, mentor, and co-creator of artistic experiences. Your responsibilities will include:

Teaching

  • Teaching theater courses ranging from introductory to advanced acting
  • Teaching a semester-long improvisation course
  • Teaching an additional semester-long performing arts elective, which may include options such as:
    • Filmmaking
    • Playwriting
    • Shakespeare
    • Musical Theater
    • Scenic Design
    • Public Speaking

Course offerings may shift based on the background and strengths of the successful candidate.

There may also be opportunities to teach a course in another academic department, such as English, depending on qualifications and school needs.

Directing & Production

  • Selecting plays in consultation with the arts department
  • Directing the Fall Play; cast student performers and oversee all rehearsals and performances for the production (November 12–14, 2026).
  • Directing the Winter Play; cast student performers and oversee all rehearsals and performances for the production (February 25–27, 2027).
  • Overseeing or coordinating scenic design, lighting and sound design, and production logistics

Some technical and production responsibilities may be supported by part-time staff, depending on the scope of the production.

Student-Directed Musical

  • Serving as a producer and advisor for the student-directed musical
  • Supporting student leadership while ensuring a safe, organized, and successful production process

Community Engagement

  • Participating fully in school life, including advising, evening residential duties, and other community responsibilities, as appropriate to the role's full- or part-time structure

What We're Looking For

  • A bachelor's degree in Theater, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching theater and directing productions at the secondary or collegiate level
  • The ability to work collaboratively with students and colleagues
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a student-centered approach to teaching and directing
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching or additional performing arts disciplines is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range (Full-Time): $40,000–$80,000
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience
  • Housing may be available for this position
