Position: Tufter
Location: Cartersville, GA
Starting Pay: $18/hour, 7pm-7am swing shifts

Responsibilities:

• Creel tufting and sock knitting machines to change yarn styles or replace exhausted yarn packages, following supervisor instructions, color codes, or package numbers.
• Maintain yarn supply for tufting machines: unpack yarn, load into creel, tie ends together and remove empty cones.
• Accurately feed correct yarns into tufting machines as specified by production needs.
• Operate sample carpet dyeing equipment, including weighing dyes for diagnostic testing, running extractors, and dryers.
• Place rolls of backing material on machine brackets, draw backing under machine needles, and attach to take-up roll.
• Monitor tufting process to detect yarn breaks and machine malfunctions, rethread broken yarn ends, and replace bent or broken needles and hooks.
• Cut yarn ends from knots using scissors and discard appropriately to prevent entanglement.
• Remove old yarn from machines when changing yarn size or type.
• Clean dust and lint from creel and perform repairs on yarn breaks as needed.
• Replace faulty yarn packages or spools when necessary.
• Follow all safety rules for the department and facility, including Aquafil’s Recycling Guidelines and Environmental Management Systems Policy.
• Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the shift.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Basic tufting knowledge and experience (including machine operation, lockout/tagout procedures).
• Experience with tufting functions such as using air splice guns, threading needles, and rethreading breakouts in the creel.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts, add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and instructions posted in English.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills; able to communicate with Operators, Crew Leaders, Supervisors, and Managers.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Demonstrated problem-solving, adaptability, and ability to work independently.

Essential Functions:

• Must be able to move, transport, and position heavy objects and yarn packages throughout the shift.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at the tufting machine for extended periods.
• Must be able to detect and identify yarn breaks, machine malfunctions, and quality issues visually and by touch.
• Must be able to position self to access, operate, and maintain tufting machinery, including reaching, bending, and crouching as needed.
• Must be able to communicate accurate information both verbally and in writing.

Work Environment:

• Frequently work indoors in a production or manufacturing setting.
• Exposed to equipment such as tufting machines and power tools daily.
• Almost always wear protective gear, such as goggles and masks.
• Sometimes exposed to contaminants such as dust, lint, and cleaning solvents.
• Occasionally exposed to distracting or uncomfortable noise levels from machinery.
• May need to work in awkward positions to reach cramped or tight workspaces.
• Sometimes exposed to very hot or very cold temperatures; workspaces may not be temperature-controlled.
• Work near others and often share the same workspace.
